The Archaeologist's Map

Introduction

The Archaeologist's Map is a rare Treasure item that allows you to teleport to town and back!
  • The Archaeologist's Map is one of the rarest items in the game, it can be an incredibly long grind
  • The Map consists of 4 different pieces and can be obtained by grinding areas in Valencia
  • After you'll need to obtain 4 different Gems, but these are easy to obtain by comparison
  • The map can be used for grinding far away locations, teleing to town and then teleing to your spot

The grind can take over hundreds of hours and should be considered a completionist item.

Archaeologist's Map Restrictions

With how long it takes to grind for the map, it's important to know it's restrictions in case this change your mind on comitting to grinding out the map pieces.

In general, the map should be considered a long term goal, in terms of profit and progression, there's a lot of places that far surpass the map grinding locations and the map's teleport isn't all that game changing.

Here are the other restrictions and use limitations the archaeologist's map has:

  • The map can't be used during a node war or siege, so no teleporting advantages during PvP wars
  • If you've been sent to jail or are playing Red Battlefield, the map is unusable.
  • The map has a 6 hour cooldown, but it doesn't share a cooldown with Traveler's Map
  • You can only teleport back to your grindspot from a safe zone.
  • The teleport back to your grindspot has a 30 minute time limit, after that, you can't return teleport

Obtaining the Archaeologist's Map Pieces

When grinding for the Map pieces, the item that will drop is a Map of Unknown Piece which must be appraised, you'll then find out which map piece you have.

There's two grind zones that give different pieces, but when appraising you can get duplicates, which is one of the things that makes the grind take so long.

Before Appraisal After Appraisal Item Name How to Obtain

Unknown Piece

Tukar Piece

(Before Appraisal) Map of Unknown Piece

(After Appraisal) Archaeologist's Map Piece

Defeat monsters in the Roud Sulfur Mine monster zone.

Devourer piece

Warder Piece

Defeat monsters in the Pila Ku Jail monster zone.

Deportee Piece

Roud Sulfur Mine

This spot can be found close to Valencia along the coast, the requirement is only 210 AP so Seasonal gear will be more than enough to grind here.

The fastest way to get here is to teleport to Valencia using the Magnus, then head north up to the mountains.

At the time of writing these are the drops and silver per hour you can expect using only a yellow loot scroll and a Blessing of Kamasylve.

If you want to check out the current drop information you can check its grind tracker entry here

Pila Ku Jail

Pila Ku has the same requirements as Roud Sulfur Mine, needing 210 AP and Seasonal gear will be able to efficiently grind here, obviously the higher your gear score the better, though.

To get here, teleport to Valencia using the Magnus then head south, you'll reach a cliffside with the entrance to Pila ku Jail with Oberin's Villa nearby.

At the time of writing these are the drops and silver per hour you can expect using only a yellow loot scroll and a Blessing of Kamasylve.

Treasure Hunt Event

During special events there are additional Valencia grind spot options for hunting the map pieces. This will let you have a little more variety when hunting for the pieces.

Item Name

Existing Drop Location

Additional Drop Location During the Event

Map of Unknown Piece

Roud Sulfur Mine

Taphtar Plain (Centaurus Herd)

Pila Ku Jail

Waragon Nest

Taphtar Plain (Centaurus Herd)

The requirements for Centaurus are lower than Roud Sulfur Mine and drops the Tukar Piece and Devourer pieces. The money per hour is generally a lot higher as well.

At the time of writing these are the drops and silver per hour you can expect using only a yellow loot scroll and a Blessing of Kamasylve.

If you want to check out the current drop information you can check its grind tracker entry here!

Waragon Nest

This spot is an alternative to the Pila Ku grind spot, as this location drops the Warder and Deportee pieces.

it's a party grinding spot, but the requirements are lower than the solo spots. Pila Ku is still probably still the best option for these pieces unless you're looking to change things up.

At the time of writing these are the drops and silver per hour you can expect using only a yellow loot scroll and a Blessing of Kamasylve.

Obtaining Gems

The gems are actually really easy to obtain, you can usually just grab them of the Central Marketplace because they're all items that are in stock.

Item Image Item How to Obtain

Blood Ruby

Processing, or purchase from the Central Market.

Ocean Sapphire

Gold Topaz

Forest Emerald

If you do need to process the gems for whatever reason, you'll need the Shaking: Skilled knowledge, which requires Processing Artisan 1.

The recipe for the gems is 3 x Gem Polisher and 7 x Resplendent gem. These can be grabbed off the Marketplace easily, too.

For the Resplendent gem, you would choose the gem you needed, for example you'd need 7 x Resplendent Rubys.

You shouldn't have any difficulty just buying the crafted gems outright though, so don't worry too much about it.

Identifying Map Pieces

Like mentioned previously, when a map piece drops, no matter what location you're grinding in, it will be dropped as a

Map of Unknown Piece which needs to be identified.

To identify the map pieces, you will have to head to Caphras Cave close by to Florin.

Here's an image of the cave entrance but it's really not difficult to find, so you shouldn't have any trouble in finding it.

Once you head inside you'll see NPC Philance along with a way to head deeper down into the cave, head down deeper.

Follow the path as you head down and it will curve off to the left, eventually you'll come to a stone door.

Hit the stone doorway and it'll break open, revealing a hidden library room with Caphras Journals around the room.

Talk to this one in the centre of the library to exchange your map pieces, when you interact you'll be given the exchange option.
