Introduction
Deve's Encyclopedia is a simple item submission journal that is relatively quick to complete
- The main reason for completing the journal is the +1 AP provided during Book 5
- Deve's Encyclopedia also provides a Desert Fox pet and Cosmetic pearl slot helmet
- The journal does provide some other extra stats, +27 Max HP, 3 Stamina and +2 weight limit
- Most of the items needed for submission can be purchased directly from the Central Marketplace
The items submitted for the journal are not lost upon submission, meaning you can re-sell them.
Journal Requirements
Deve's Encyclopedia is pretty beginner friendly, there's only a couple of requirements before being able to start the journal.
First of all is the level requirement, before starting Deve's Encyclopedia you must be at least level 57.
After that, just complete the "[Adventure Log] Shakatu Merchants' Archive" quest from your the Black Spirit
Starting Deve's Encyclopedia
You can start the journal by talking to the Black Spirit, look for the quest named Encyclopedia: A Book Written by a Genius or Fool.
To view the journal open the Esc menu, click Adventure then look for Adventure Log Bookshelf.
Deve is Altinova's Storage Keeper, famous for even storing worries. If you've never used the storage in Altinova, here's the location on the map.
As the name of the Encyclopedia suggests, this is the NPC you'll be delivering the requested items to.
While you can't skip to the next book, the chapters within each book can be completed in any order.
So if you already have items required for the other chapters, you can complete them right away.
Book 1 Chapter 1
First up is to collect 5 different types of metal ore. The best way to obtain these are on the Central Marketplace.
Silver Ore, Iron Ore, Copper Ore, Titanium Ore, Tin Ore, Vanadium Ore, Gold Ore, Lead Ore, Platinum Ore, Zinc Ore and Noc Ore are all accepted.
If you have the inventory space or are already in Altinova, the items for several chapters can also be delivered together.
Book 1 Chapter 2
Next, Deve wants some powders, you'll need to grab 3 different types for this one. The easiest way is to just use the Central Marketplace.
Book 1 Chapter 3
Chapter 3 will have you show off some gold bars, this chapter can actually be completed at Deve if you have the silver ready.
Talk to a Storage Keeper and exchange silver for Gold Bar 1G, Gold Bar 10G, Gold Bar 100G and a Gold Bar 1,000G.
If you currently don't have the silver for a Gold Bar 1,000G then you can also easily purchase a Gold Ingot from the Central Marketplace.
Bartali Gold Bar, A Gold Bar from the Citizen Bank, Lauren Family's Gold Bar and Gold Bar 10,000G are also accepted.
Book 1 Chapter 4
Now for the last chapter of Book 1. This time, Deve wants flowers, again, the Central Marketplace will be able to do most of the work for you.
High Quality or Special versions of flowers will be accepted also, so if they're the only ones available on the marketplace, feel free to use them instead.
Only one flower of the same name will be accepted, such as a Sunflower OR High-Quality Sunflower.
Here's the list of flowers that will be accepted, you will need 7 types of flowers in total.
Blue Flower, Silver Azalea, Dalvenia Alrea, Delotia, Audria, Sky Blue Flower, Vedelona, Rose, Insectivore Plant Flower, Saffron, Flax, Sunflower, Fire Flake Flower, Violet Flower, Yellow Flower, Tulip, Purple Pink Flower.
If you need more flowers than you can grab on the marketplace, Grana is the best spot to get more.
You can grab some Blue Flowers from behind the Central Marketplace.
Next you can pick some Yellow Flowers and Violet Flowers by the Guild Manager NPC, just right of the Marketplace.
Lastly, you can head over to NPC Morco from the Crow Merchants guild to pick some Audria and Sky Blue Flowers
Silver Azalea, Sunflowers, Flax, Delotia and Saffron are usually pretty commonly available to purchase.
Book 2 Chapter 1
The first chapter of Book 2 will ask for 5 different types of chairs. As usual, check the Central Marketplace for any chairs available.
Usually you can grab at least a Crio's Fishing Chair from the marketplace, so that should save you some effort.
Pearl furniture will not work, but there are a few easy chairs you can get from furniture vendors.
You can buy a chair from the Velia Furniture Vendor Sealus, the Amity chair is also rather easy to get from him, so that might be worth picking up.
If you haven't used the Amity system before, to play the Amity mini-game, select "Conversation" when speaking to an NPC.
The Velian Chair for 500 Amity isn't too bad to obtain from Sealus either, nor is the Velian Bed for 500.
While you're visiting these vendors, you can also try to gain 3 beds for Chapter 3.
You can grab another chair from Furniture Dealer Lebyos in Heidel, without using Amity and a second can be purchased with Amity.
You can purchase another 2 chairs from the Calpheon city Furniture Vendor Lylina without Amity and a third with Amity.
If you don't mind travelling to Sand Grain Bazaar, you can also get cheaper Amity options from Furniture Vendor Xerxes
Book 2 Chapter 2
This is one of the easiest chapters to do, you can buy everything you need from Candlestick Vendor NPC Annabella Belucci in Calpheon.
Here's a picture of her location in Calpheon if you've never spoken to her before:
Once you're at Annabelle's store, just buy whichever Chandelier's you'd like, you need 3 in total to complete the chapter.
Book 2 Chapter 3
More furniture requests, this time its 2 beds. This one can be difficult to obtain anything from the Central Marketplace, but it's still worth checking for.
The easiest Amity bed is the Velian Bed for 500 Amity purchased from the Velia Furniture Vendor Sealus.
Next I'd recommend either the Heidel Bed from Furniture Dealer Lebyos in Heidel for 1000 Amity or the Furniture Vendor Xerxes in Sand Grain Bazaar for 600 Amity.
Book 2 Chapter 4
For the last chapter of Book 2 you'll be asked to turn in stuffed heads to Deve.
Luckily you only have to turn in 2 items and this can easily be done by using the Central Marketplace.
It's important to note that the stuffed heads must be of Blue grade quality to be accepted by Deve.
You may need to keep scrolling, as there are a lot of options on the Central Marketplace for this.
Book 3 Chapter 1
The first chapter of Book 3 is nice and easy, just like the last chapter, it can be completed quickly by using the Central Marketplace.
This time, Deve would like to see 3 different types of Coral, this would be the raw Coral material and not accessories.
If you need some extra coral, you can heat a Blue Coral Earring or a Red Coral Ring for a few extra types.
To do this, open the Processing menu (P) and select Heating, you'll obtain coral as a product of melting the accessory.
Book 3 Chapter 2
This is another relatively easy one, thankfully most of Book 3 is easy to complete, especially when compared to Book 2.
Deve has asked for 3 items for underwater. A good amount of the items can be purchased of the Central Marketplace.
Grab a Elixir of Seal and a Agile Seal Elixir from the market place. Next grab Swamp Naga Webfoot and Swamp Fogan Webfoot from the grinding spots near Glish.
Lastily, head over to Desert Naga Temple, near Sand Grain Bazaar to grind for some Desert Naga Webfoot
You can also use a Vadabin Diving Mask if you have one, but the other items are easier to obtain.
Book 3 Chapter 3
Deve wants 3 Fishing rods this time, luckily the Central Marketplace can save you from any hard work. Just buy 3 rods from the market and you're done.
Book 3 Chapter 4
For the final chapter of Book 3, Deve wants to see some keys, again, the Central Marketplace can do most of the work for you.
There are a lot of different options for submitting keys, generally, if its got Key in the item name, it will be accepted.
The ones we'll be focusing on is a Bronze Key, Silver Key and Gold key. Grab the Gold and Silver ones from the marketplace.
You can also exchange 100 Silver Keys for a Gold key by talking to NPC Morco in major cities.
To get a Bronze Key you can head over to Dernyl near Glish. Talk to him and play the Amity game to earn 100 Amity with him.
Once you've got 100 Amity, you can accept a quest from him called "Bait for Fogan Research" which requires you to hunt a crow.
Luckily you can rent a matchlock from Dernyl for 2 Contribution Points and the crows are only a few meters away.
Book 4 Chapter 1
For the first chapter of Book 4, you'll need 4 items that could be used as traps. The easiest one being a Capturing Rope that you can grab from a Stable Keeper NPC.
You may be able to purchase the other traps on the Central Marketplace, but they have a tendency to be sold out.
The items are all craftable by using seige workshops within housing in cities. Heidel 1-4F can be used for example.
All of the items needed can be seen when highlighting them in the crafting menu. Most of the items needed can be purchased from the Central Marketplace.
Book 4 Chapter 2
Deve now wants 3 items that will make you look presentable.
Silk Honey Grass can be easily obtained from the Central Marketplace, though only one type of this item can be used.
The second item that's easiest to obtain is a Mirror of Equilibrium, you can obtain one from Duvencrune Blacksmith Hughol.
Fogan Skin Oil is an easy third option if you already have Skilled 5 Trading, if not, it might be faster to craft Loria's Hand Mirror.
Book 4 Chapter 3
Next up you will need 2 of the following items that can be used for confessing love, with it only being 2 items, this can be a pretty quick chapter to complete.
A Perfume of Courage can be obtained from the Central Marketplace or from events, you can also craft them using the following ingredients:
1 Blue Whale Oil, 3 Trace of Violence, 6 Bloody Tree Knot, 4 Purified Water, 2 Clear Liquid Reagent.
You'll also need a Rose which be can gathered at The Northern Wheat Plantation by using a Gathering Hoe or purchased on the Central Marketplace.
The roses will be easy to find along the highlighted roads, just head over to the fences to find some.
Book 4 Chapter 4
Chapter 4 is a pretty easy one, you just have to give Deve some different Alcoholic drinks. Anything with wine or beer in the name tends to work.
You'll need 5 items in total, as usual, the easiest place to obtain the items is going to be the Central Marketplace.
There's nearly always plenty of Beer on the market and all different kinds of wine, so you should have no issue getting 5 types.
If for whatever you need to craft your own, you can do so by using cooking in your housing.
Book 4 Chapter 5
Next up is items related to energy. You'll need 5 items in total for this one but they're all easy to get a hold of, so it's another easy chapter.
First up, grab the Hercules' Might armor set from the Central Marketplace, this will account for 4 items. Make sure you buy the base, green version of the armor pieces.
You can also use Energy Potions, which you can purchase these from the Central Marketplace, too.
But if you have a bunch of energy sitting around that you're not using, you can head to Alustin the Alchemist in Velia to exchange it for Energy Potions.
Book 5 Chapter 1
This is the chapter that awards the +1 AP bonus, which is the point a lot of people stop at.
The only rewards for completing after this point is +9 Max HP a long with the free Desert Fox pet and either a Karmen Crown or Kini Hair Ornament.
Deve wants 2 items related to Ogres for this chapter, two of which are commonly available on the Central Marketplace.
You can also drain the blood from Ogres found near Mansha Forest and grind them for a Soiled Ogre Ring which will also work, but I wouldn't recommend it.
The Ogre Ring might be expensive but Deve won't remove it from your inventory, meaning you can resell it after you're done with the chapter.
The Soiled Ogre Ring is a rare drop from Ogres which can be found in Mansha Forest just South West of Calpheon
Book 5 Chapter 2
This chapter is simpler than the last, requiring just a Memory Fragment. One of these you likely already have but if not, it can be obtained on the Central Marketplace.
Book 5 Chapter 3
Deve now wants you to collect 1 type of the hottest items in the world, the items for this completion is Golden Sun Coral Belt or Golden Sun Coral
The items Scorching Sun Crystal, Scorching Sun Shard and Scorching Sun Gemstone can now also be used to complete this chapter.
Book 5 Chapter 4
For chapter 4, the items all need to be related to knowing the future. Anything with "Fortune Teller" in the name should work, but generally mushrooms are used.
Here are Fortune Teller items on the Central Marketplace, you should be able to purchase 3 types with relative ease.
Book 5 Chapter 5
Chapter 5 will ask for beautiful items made with dirt, meaning any items containing the words Pottery, Kettle or China.
You can use the Central Marketplace and you may be able to get the 3 items required.
If you're not able to and need additional items to complete this chapter, you can use the Ceramic Workshop house, Glish 2
You can also head to the Ceramics Dealer NPC Jedeok in Nampo's Moodle Village in the Land of the Morning Light and use any of his store items:
Book 6 Chapter 1
Book 6 starts off with a nice easy chapter, requesting Pure items, you should have no problem using the Central Marketplace to grab all 3 types.
Book 6 Chapter 2
This chapter will have you grab some fancy clothes to show Deve, this has to be a Calpheon Noble Suit or Calpheon Noble Dress
You should be able to grab one of the outfits from the Central Marketplace, any class is fine.
Book 6 Chapter 3
Chapter 3 will have you delivering 1 type of items related to tears. The options are Krogdalo's Tear, Tear of the Great Ocean and previously an Aal's Tear.
Aal's Tear has been removed and instead replaced by Old Tree's Tear (from collecting fluid according to a set probability), Earth's Tear (from mining according to a set probability) and Tears of War (from Red Battlefield daily quest)
You can obtain a Tear of the Great Ocean from the Central Marketplace or by completing a fishing quest from Abelin called [Life Skill Mastery] Fisherman and the Sea.
Krogdalo's Tear is dropped from Kamasylvia Poachers so could take longer to obtain.
Bonghwang's Tear, Haetae's Tear, Girin's Tear, Tear of Illusion, Dragon's Tears have all been added as items that can be used.
But given the price of the Magical Crystals, I wouldn't use them for something as simple as this and the other items are useful for other things.
Book 6 Chapter 4
Next up is 1 item that shows friendship, You can use Beer or Token of Friendship can be used for this and can easily be obtainted from the Central Marketplace.
Book 6 Chapter 5
For the final chapter, Deve wants a few of his favourite items, 5 items in total.
First up is a Flare, you can get one from the Central Marketplace or from the Loyalty shop for only 10 Loyalties.
The next three items, Soaring Wings Elixir, Honey Wine, Transparent Empty Bottle are all easy to obtain from the market.
A Magic Tanning Knife will also now be accepted by Deve for the completion of this chapter, too.
This is the final chapter, after you show Deve these last 5 items, you're all finished!
