Herald's Journal

Introduction

Herald's Journal increases your Fail Stacks, as well as giving +1 DP and other rewards!
  • Herald's Journal provides you with +3 Max Valk's Enhancement Chance for extra enhance chance
  • This journal is also known as Rubin's Journal as he's the main NPC of the journal quests
  • It also gives +1 DP and +43 Max stamina, making it one of the essential ones to complete
  • Herald's journal is also a requirement of Pavino Greko's Collection Book 3.

Herald's Journal also offers a Enchanted Scroll (+80) for completing which is a fairly decent fail stack.

Starting the Herald's Journal

Before starting the Herald's Journal, you'll need to be at least Level 58.

Once you meet the level requirement you can complete the quest "[Adventure Log] Old Moon Logs" from your Black Spirit.

To view the journal open the Esc menu, click Adventure then look for Adventure Log Bookshelf.

If you've never been to NPC Rubin before, he's located in Calpheon. Just look for NPC Morco if you're having a hard time finding him.

Make sure you have your horse, along with its best gear. You should also use a riding crop if you have one, even the Fughar's Riding Crop will help.

Book 1 Chapter 1

The Herald's Journal consists of either Time Trials or Puzzles. For the first few books, the journal will focus on Time trials. These time trials all begin at NPC Rubin

You'll chat to Rubin to start the time trials, if you fail, speak to Rubin again.

For the first chapter you will be asked to speak to 6 Calpheon City NPCs. You'll have 3 Minutes

Starting from Rubin, head up to Ella Belucci then back track past Rubin to NPC Grandus

Next head all the way to Stable Keeper Romary, you can speak to Angela on the way back towards Bartholomeo

Bartholomeo is in a bit of an awkward place for this. Once you get the bridge you can hit (R) while running to dismount and throw your horse further.

Jump off the bridge and speak to Bartholomeo, then take the route the picture shows to head up some stairs to circle back to meet your horse.

Once done, race back to Rubin to complete the first chapter.

Book 1 Chapter 2

Next, Rubin will have you climbing to the top of Calpheon tower.

This time you'll have 6 minutes. If you play a Lahn or have one to use for this, you can use her flight / fall damage immunity to jump back down the tower, making it easier.

Set an autopath for the Calpheon tower, once you get close look for the NPC Vitheons Belucci

Run past him to the highlighted stairs and ascend up to the top of the tower. You'll need to climb up the ladders to the very top of the tower.

Once you get to the top of the tower there will be an interactable object called "The Highest Place in Calpheon" make sure you hit R on it when you reach the top.

Now it's just a matter of getting down quickly, make sure not to fall the whole way otherwise you'll die.

If you play Lahn or a class that can mitigate falling damage, then this chapter is much easier. Succ Lahn especially can use the height of the tower to fly back towards Rubin

If you have a Celestial Horse Calling Horn and a pegasus then you can also call your horse up to the top of the tower and use it to fly down.

Book 1 Chapter 3

Next up you'll be asked to speak to NPC Geranoa, they're not that far from Rubin but you'll only have 2 minute to complete the trial.

You can use the side streets instead of the autopath route to make it to Geranoa a little faster. Here's the side street route.

Here's the enrance to the side streets from another view, just so you know where to go.

Once you make it to Gerenoa make sure you talk to him, you need to use the "Chat" option for this to count.

After speaking to him just race back to Rubin

Book 1 Chapter 4

For chapter 4 you'll be asked to run all the way to Velia to talk to Crio. Despite sounding long, you don't have to run back to Rubin for this chapter. You have 7 minutes

You'll be fine to use the autopath route to Crio, just make sure to use whatever skills you have for your horse to blast over to Velia as quick as you can and you'll be fine.

Book 2 Chapter 1

For the first chapter of book 2, Crio will be the one to give you the task. Being the Fish Vendor, it's not surprising that they choose to give you a fishing task.

Crio will have you catch 1 blue grade fish in 15 minutes to complete this chapter.

To help with this quest, you can try using a Triple-Float Fishing Rod for some extra chances of catching a blue grade fish.

Generally most people complete this by heading to the nearby Velia hotspot. Just look for the mass of people gathered on the coastline to see where to fish.

Book 2 Chapter 2

This next chapter is pretty simple, you have 2 minute to head over to the Trading Manager NPC Bahar and succeed in bargaining with them.

As you can see it's not far at all to get from NPC to NPC, it's just the bargaining that can sometimes slow you down.

Book 2 Chapter 3

This chapter will involve sailing from NPC Croix the Velia Wharf Manager over to Iliya Island to speak with NPC Diega.

For this I'd recommend buying a Epheria Cog if you don't already have better, it will reach Iliya island easily thanks to its sprint skill. You have 8 minutes.

You can purchase an Epheria Cog from the Loyalties store:

Here's the route you'll need to take to reach Iliya Island if you're not sure where it is:

Book 2 Chapter 4

Hop back on your boat, we'll need it for this chapter too, also make sure you have an Atanis Firefly as the cave you'll end in is dark.

First we'll be sailing to the NPC Kunga who can be found near Mediah Castle. You'll have 4 minutes for this time trial.

And here's another zoomed in view to pinpoint his location more clearly:

Once you've sailed to Kunga leave your boat and head up the mountain. Talk to Kunga in order to start the time trial.

Kunga will ask to swim across the water to the nearby cave, so head down to your boat and sail over instead.

Don't jump off the cliff to your boat unless you have fall damage mitigation like Lahn flight, otherwise you might die, just slide down the cliff side.

Once inside the cave, hug the right wall and make your way closer to the water. You'll see an invisible object called "Goal."

Book 3 Chapter 1

This ist he chapter that rewards the +1 DP bonus. Thankfully, it's also one of the easiest chapters in the journal.

All you have to do this time is kill 250 Gahaz Bandits in 5 minutes

Grab the time trial from the Node Manager NPC Rafa

Book 3 Chapter 2

Now you'll have to head over to Sand Grain Bazaar as the time trial starts from Warehouse Keeper NPC Tavu

You'll have to find an NPC called Bert inside Hysteria Ruins within 5 minutes.

The way i personally did this was to find a portal before taking the time trial, using a Sealed Compass to be able to view my place on the minimap to do so.

After finding a portal I started the time trial from Sand Grain Bazaar.

Once you're inside Hysteria it's easy, just use Esc - Escape to teleport immediately to the exit, where Bert will be.

Book 3 Chapter 3

Next up is one of the more infamous chapters of this journal, you'll have to tour the Valencia Desert, visiting the different Pilgrim's Sanctums.

You'll have 15 minutes to speak to 7 node managers across the different sanctums. Make sure to actually speak to the node managers.

You will start the time trial at Pilgrim's Sanctum: Obedience.

I'd highly recommend using a Sealed Compass and would consider it almost mandatory. If you have a camel or Dine then this will be a lot easier.

The generally accepted route for this is visiting the Pilgrim's Santums in this order:

Obedience, Abstinence, Sincerity,  Humility, Purity, Sharing then Fast

Book 3 Chapter 4

This is another unpopular one, requiring you to talk to 4 village chiefs in 21 minutes. With a time like that you can already expect to be travelling a good distance.

Before you head to Valencia, leave your fastest Horse in the Sand Grain Bazaar stables.

The chapter starts in Valencia speaking to the King Sahazad Nesser in the palace in Valencia.

You will have to visit Neruda Shen in Altinova, Crucio Domongatt in Heidel, Igor Bartali in Velia, Herman Feresio in Calpheon and Rubin

You can use a Traveler's Map to help cover some distance which can save you some time as well.

You can also look for a portal to Aakman or Hysteria close to Valencia City before starting the timer, so that when you start the timer you can find and enter the portal immediately.

Once inside you can use the Esc - Escape method to instantly teleport to the exit. Exiting Hysteria or Aakman will teleport you to Ibellab Oasis.

Be wary of the lengthy Esc - Escape cool down if you used it in the previous chapter.

Once you're at Ibellab Oasis you can use your Traveler's Map to jump to Sand Grain Bazaar to pick up your horse, effectively skipping the entire desert.

If you can't find a portal, have Esc - Escape on cooldown, or the portals are too far from Valencia, you can also just use the Traveler's Map to jump straight to Sand Grain Bazaar

This is the location earliest to Valencia that I managed to find that the map is usable to teleport to Sand Grain Bazaar.

It's still close to Valencia City so this should still save you some time. After the desert is covered, pick up your horse from Sand Grain Bazaar.

From then its just a dash to the other NPCs. I'd recommend Altinova - Heidel - Velia - Calpheon.

Here's Neruda Shen's location, pathing from Sand Grain Bazaar.

Up next is the Heidel Node manager, located right by Jordine Ducas, here's the pathing:

Then its over to Velia, the reason being that you can go to Calpheon through Velia without back tracking.

Finally its over to Calpheon, you'll have to speak to Herman Feresio and then Rubin too.

Book 4 Chapter 1

Thankfully this chapter returns to much shorter timed trials, with a timer of just 4 minutes.

This will be a short rush around in Calpheon. Rubin will have you deliver a box to Milano Belucci.

Milano Belucci will then ask you to move a wheelbarrow to Merv

After delivering the wheelbarrow to Merv, you will have to clean the chimney behind her before heading back to Rubin.

Book 4 Chapter 2

Next up is some matchlock shooting. For this you'll need at least a Beginner Matchlock in order to one shot the mobs.

A rented matchlock can't one shot the "Rubin-Scarecrow" that you'll be required to kill 25 of.

The chapter will have you travel over to Dias Farm, close to Rubin in Calpheon to kill the scarecrows.

This chapter will have you turn in the completion to the Black Spirit so make sure you remember to complete it.

Book 4 Chapter 3

The next chapter will have you taming a horse, you'll have 5 minutes to complete this and the time trial will start from NPC Shamhain at the Stonetail Horse Ranch.

You'll need to grab some Lumps of Raw Sugar and some Capturing Rope  in order to tame a horse as usual.

Here's the nearest horse location to the Stonetail Horse Ranch that I could find, the horses are on the cliffside by the coast.

Book 4 Chapter 4

Up next is a quiz, Rubin will send you off to 3 different Alchemist NPCs to answer questions before returning back to Rubin.

The first NPC is Gorgath at the Contaminated Farm just north east of Rubin's location.

For Gorgath's questions, type the answers  37, 62, 105 and 206, one of these will be correct and it will save you the time of figuring it out.

The rest of the questions at the next NPCs will cost 50 energy, so getting it wrong is costly. Make sure to check for the correct answer on the next two NPCs.

After Gorgath, make your way over to NPC Freharau in Glish for the next question.

Look for keywords in the question. The answer will correlate to the keywords below. Here are the answers:

  • Elixir of Wings = Wise Man's Blood
  • Specialty Velia = Wine
  • Region = Pilgrim Sanctum Pure
  • EXP Elixir = Purified Water
  • Helix = Trace of Nature
  • Storage Keeper = Gurtis
  • Kalis Parliament = Basquean Ljurik
  • Elixir Seal = Oil of Corruption

After giving the correct answer, you'll have to head to NPC Alustin in Velia.

This will work just like the last section, again just search for the keywords and apply the correct answer from the  below list:

  • Elixir of Wings = Wise Man's Blood
  • Specialty Velia = Wine
  • Region = Pilgrim Sanctum Pure
  • EXP Elixir = Purified Water
  • Helix = Trace of Nature
  • Storage Keeper = Gurtis
  • Kalis Parliament = Basquean Ljurik
  • Elixir Seal = Oil of Corruption

Next just race back to Rubin. Make sure you talk to him twice to complete the chapter.

Book 4 Chapter 5

For the final chapter, Rubin will lead you to Elder Bridge, where you'll have to make your way safely across the bridge while transformed as a Stoneback Crab.

There will be a series of blue lights that show the correct, safe path to take, but we're not going to worry about that.

Instead we're just going to walk across the ledge of the bridge and ignore the puzzle entirely.

Here's the side of the bridge you will start on, as you can see there is a ledge to the bridge that spans it's whole distance.

Turn around and you'll be able to see how to get on to the side of the bridge without jumping, meaning this works while transformed as the crab.

This is how to get on to the bridge side, after this just follow it across the whole way until you reach the other side and can speak to Rubin again.

After that, you will have finished the Herald's Journal! Did you like doing the time trials, or did it just feel like a chore? Let us know!
