BDO Basics - Memory Fragments

Introduction

This is a Memory Fragment guide intended for newer players learning enhancing
  • Memory Fragments are used mainly for repairing an item's maximum durability
  • They're used for changing skill add-ons at Skill Instructors without using Secret Books of Old Moon
  • Jetina's Guaranteed PEN armour and weapons also require a large amount of Memory Fragments
  • There's also easy Boss content with the sole purpose of dropping Memory Fragments.

Make sure not to use Memory Fragments on your Tuvala Gear, use Tuvala Ore instead.

Using Memory Fragments

Since there are a few  ways to use Memory Fragments, we'll start with the most common use which is to repair the durability of your weapons and armour.

Head over to a Blacksmith or Stable Keeper NPC in any town and speak to them. You'll be given the option to click "Repair"

Once you've clicked repair you'll then be given the option to repair max durability of items.

After selecting "Recover Max Dur." you'll be given a new UI window, it's simple enough to use, just select a piece of gear with missing max durability.

Then select the material you want to use to repair it, in this case Memory Fragments. If you're enhancing Tuvala gear, you'd use Tuvala Ore here instead.

Memory Fragments restore different amounts of durability based on the gear's rarity, but you shouldn't use them on anything other than boss gear or fallen god type gear (upgraded PEN boss gear).

This section will allow you to choose how you use your Memory Fragments, there is a trick to "Recover Once" where you can randomly be granted a free +1 max durability from the Blacksmith.

To do this, just spam click Recover Once while spamming Enter to select (Yes) to the dialogue pop up.

This basically triggers the chance to get the free +1 max dura for free over and over until your item is fully repaired.

You can obviously just choose to use continuous, which will be faster but if you want, you can try to save a few memory frags here and there.

Artisan's Memory

When repairing max durability you'll also see the option to use the Artisan's Memory option, these increase the effectiveness of Memory Fragments.

Artisan's Memory will restore 5 durability instead of 1 to items like boss gear or fallen god gear, which is the only gear Memory Fragments should really be used on.

To obtain them, you'll be able to grab 5 every month using the Loyalty store, but they're not cheap at 800 each.

Luckily they're also handed out really often during events or login rewards, so it's really not too bad to stockpile them.

But other than that, the Artisan's Memory are cash shop items, but now with how available they are and how easy Memory Fragments are to obtain, you probably won't need to ever buy them.

Skill Add-ons

If you're not using a Secret Book of Old Moon or Cliff's Skill Add-on Guide then it will cost you to swap out your different Skill Add-ons.

Skill Add-ons are buffs that are applied through the use of different skills, you can assign which skills you'd like to have bonus effects at Skill Instructor NPCs.

This only costs 1 Memory Fragment so it's a really cheap cost to switch them over, but it is technically a use of your fragments.

Jetina's Guaranteed PEN Boss Gear

When using the Guaranteed PEN boss gear system, you'll need to gather 1000 Memory Fragments per gear piece in order to fully craft a PEN item.

This is obviously a pretty heavy sink on mem frags and will be a pretty common use for them. If you want to know more about Guaranteed PEN gear, click below:

Obtaining Memory Fragments

The easiest and fastest way to obtain Memory Fragments is to purchase them from the Central Marketplace, though this can get expensive pretty fast.

They're also given out frequently through events, login rewards and coupons, especially with [Event] Advice of Memory as they're given out pretty often.

You can also obtain memory fragments by exchanging seasonal seals, they can be obtained by completing the Season Pass.

For 20 seals you can grab the 20-50 bundle which is a decent use of the seals if you've already grabbed the things you want from the 1 Exchange per Family items.

After passing 100 completions of the Black Spirit's Adventure, you'll also be given a Black Spirit's Special Selection Box I after every 10 rounds over 100.

For example when you hit 110 completed rounds, you'll be given the following selection box that has Memory Fragment Bundles inside in it.

The box isn't RNG, it will let you pick which ever reward you like, the Memory Fragment Bundles will give you 20-30 Memory Fragments

Boss Scrolls

The main mechanic to obtaining Memory Fragments is by doing boss scrolls, the most common of these scrolls being the Scroll Written In Ancient Language bosses.

These can be obtained by grinding in Valencia and are a super common item. Normally, running them for yourself will give you a bit more profit from your grind, too.

Though it is likely less efficient to run these scrolls than grind for a longer period, but these scrolls are super easy, casual content.

The scrolls can also be purchased off the Central Marketplace and provide you with a good amount of fragments.

You'll need 5 of these scrolls in your inventory, you then combine them by arranging them into a + shape. To do this you'll need to turn off Auto-Arrange in your inventory.

Once you've turned it off, you can arrange the five scrolls into the + shape, this will allow you to craft the boss summon scroll.

These are the most popular versions of Memory Fragment boss scrolls, but a lot of people also use Ancient Relic Crystal Shards

The Ancient Relic Crystal Shards are good because they're obtained pretty commonly from Life Skilling like gathering or fishing and can then be used to grab some Memory Fragments

Forbidden Books also work in the same way but the locations they're obtained from are far less common, meaning they're not all that popular.

The boss scrolls can be ran solo or in a party, by using the Summoning Device above you can also power up the spawned bosses to use more scrolls at the same time.

This was intended to add some extra group content and while it can be worthwhile in a party of 5, with how tanky the mobs get from this system its usually easier to do the standard scrolls.

To use the standard scrolls, just right click them, you'll be guided to a location before summoning the set of bosses.

Awakened Saunil Siege Captain Summon Scrolls also provide a bunch of fragments, but they're usually only given out from events.

Dark Rifts

You can also obtain Memory Fragments from doing Dark Rifts, but the amount that you get is pretty minimal, it is technically a choice so it should be mentioned.

Still, compared to the other methods, it doesn't provide much at all but if you like doing them anyway, they'll give some memory fragments.

While the boxes from Dark Rifts don't provide fragments, they are a common reward in event boxes like Shakatu's Luxury Box

There's plenty of ways to get fragments but in terms of efficiency, since they're so readily available on the marketplace, you can always just grind silver and buy them instead.

Latent Aura Exchange

If you're a fan of going to world bosses and have already exchanged 100 Latent Boss Aura for their weapons (Kzarka, Offin Tet, Kutum, Nouver and Dandelion weapons)

Then you will gain access to a new exchange quest at the rate of 1 Latent Aura to 1 Memory Fragment

You can right click on the Latent Aura item to auto path to the exchange NPC location if you're not sure where to find them.
