- The Sailing course consists of 13 lessons that will help you learn the basics of Sailing
- The Life Skill courses let you grab some Exp and levels for the Life Skill you're interested in.
How to Start the Sailing Course
To start, your character must've graduated from the Season server and is at least Level 60, all you need to do is head to Olvia Academy to start things off. There's an Abyssal Well that teleports you directly there.
If it's your first time in the Olvia Academy, you'll do a super short introduction and get some free rewards, here's more on how Olvia Academy actually works if you'd like to know more!
When you're there and you've finished your introductions, you can start the Sailing Life skill. Since the teachers arespread up around the Olvia Academy, the easiest way to find them is by talking to Emma at the main desk.

You're not forced to head over to Emma though, you can access the courses in the Olvia Academy UI that you can find in the top right of your screen, it's usually flashing green.

Starting the Course
Now that you've found out where to go, you'll be able to auto path to the Sailing instructor, NPC Philaberto Falasi who'll start you out with some sailing information.
When you chat with him he'll tell you a little bit about naval combat and bartering, basically what Sailing can be used for in general. You have to tell him you understand before you can move on.

Once you're done, he'll give you a ship. It's a pretty quick one called an Epheria Cog. This little ship is a great starting point because it's pretty fast. You can hold down shift to make the ship "sprint" which is useful for this next part.
You'll be asked to register your new boat, just talk to the Wharf Manager NPC Lodovica behind NPC Philaberto Falasi. and select the "Wharf" option. The game will then prompt you to click the glowing "Register" button.

The name of your ship has to start with a capital letter, this part is really simple though, you're just going to take out your boat so you're ready to sail! After readying your boat, you can click the "Board" button to jump to the wheel.

You'll then be tasked to visit the nearby islands to unlock knowledge of them, there'll be 7 islands for you to sail around to, this will let you get used to sailing around a decent area of the ocean.

When you get close enough to the islands you'll gain knowledge of them which is what the quest asks you to do, you may need to jump on an island and have a run around on them in order to gain the knowledge.

It's not a bad idea to jump off on to the islands to speak with the Node Managers and the traders or various NPCs around the islands as well if you want the extra knowledge, it's still pretty quick anyway.
After you've collected all the knowledge, the game will update your quest log, so if it doesn't update you might have missed an island or two. Your quest log should look like this before you head back to shore.

Bartering Introduction
When you get back to shore, you'll be able to complete your quest. You'll then be given an Epheria Sailboat which you can register at the Wharf Manager. You'll need this larget boat for bartering.
To start Bartering, you'll need to check the "Barter Information" window. To check it, You can hit Esc -> Life -> Barter or just search Barter in the Esc menu.

This window might look a little overwhelming if you're a new player. It kind of just looks like a bunch of items that you might have no context for like how to obtain them, what they do and what any of this means.
To simplify things, the left sided items can be traded into items on the right side. It might just look like UI decoration at first, but the > shapes on the left side shows that it may be traded towards the right.

You'll notice that items have a level tag, like [Level 3] for example. These are items you need to trade up to. To start bartering, you'll want to find an item without a level tag, in this example image it's Freekeh.
You can buy Freekeh pretty easily on the Central Marketplace, a lot of the starter barter items can be grabbed from there. Alot of the items can be gained through Life Skills, the tooltips do a good job of telling you how to get them.

Click on Epheria Sailboat that you'll be using for bartering, then click "Load Cargo." You'll see an inventory loading UI appear. You can select items from your inventory to place into your boat, we only want ones from the Barter UI list.
The quest asks for you to barter 10 times with a big ship, these can all be done at once, in one trip. 500 Freekeh is one trade which is why I've loaded up 5000 (10 times in one trip) to complete this course quest.

Before setting off, open your Olvia Academy UI (it's the green icon at the top of the screen), you'll be able to grab some free Sailing gear that you can equip before you make your first trip for bartering.
The gear can be found in the "Family Rewards - Life Skill" section which you can see highlighted in the bottom right. Over on the right side of the screen, there's also a "Bonus Rewards! Academy Pass" button that you should click.

You'll want to head to the shop and get the Academy Pass for 100 silver which will unlock the Pass rewards, you can grab them from the silver and loyalties section! Don't miss the extra exp.

This will give you some extra Sailing Exp that might level you up depending on what your current level is, if you're new, it'll probably help you out a lot more, obviously.
So now you're ready to sail, but where do you go? Open the Barter UI again. Your trade can only take place at the location in its same column:

So for our Freekeh example, we can only trade it to Randis Island right now. Next to Randis Island there's a auto-navigate button, the V shape icon when at your ship wheel, it will then auto-route you to the location.
This will let you auto-path to the island. While completing this quest its fine to just do these exchanges, it's a decent first trip and gives you the basic idea of how Bartering works.

If you choose to do more Bartering, it's a good idea to decide which [Level 5] item you want and work backwards. See what [Level 4] items are required, same for [Level 3] and so on. This will help min max your Exchanges Left.
If it's not obvious, you must trade upwards like so: Non leveled item -> [Level 1] item -> [Level 2] item and so on. Exchanges Left is just the number of exchanges that particular location will still offer you for the goods listed in Barter.

When you reach the Bartering location, you'll be able to Anchor then click the Barter button. You'll then see the Barter trade window show up. You can choose to exchange once or continously.
Then, after trading 10 times like we mentioned earlier, your quest will be complete. You can lift your Anchor by clicking Depart, then use your completed quest to auto navigate back to NPC Philaberto Falasi.

Barters will cost parley, you can see the amount required under the item that you'd like to trade for. Parley is required for Bartering. Parley will be restored when you use your Barter Refresh in the top right corner.
Another thing to keep in mind is the weight of each item, overfilling your boat can make it really awkward as you won't be able to barter when your ship is overweight.
Safe Sailing with Ship Repairs
This is a much quicker lesson, you'll need two Plywood (of any type of wood) and then you'll need to use Chopping. Chopping can be accessed by hitting the "L" key which will open the processing window.

Completing this process will give you Ship Repair Material which you can use while out at sea to repair your ship's durability. The durability is the Red HP bar of your ship. At this point you probably haven't taken damage though.

You can interact with the mast to repair the ship. You'll then move on to the next course.
Sailor Basics
Speaking to NPC Philaberto Falasi again will give you the option to have a conversation about the basics of sailors and how they're hired. If you forget this info you can hover over the course to see a bulletpoint version.
Sailors and the full system is probably in depth enough to be it's own, whole seperate guide so we'll stick to completing the Sailing course in this guide.

Sea Monster Hunting
The next task is to go out on the sea and defeat a Sick Hekaru. You can open up the Sailing course and click on the Sick Hekaru Menace lesson to find an auto-navigate path to find one to defeat.

You might need to restock your cannons for this. You can do so by heading to the Wharf manager, clicking on your ship and then selecting "Buy Supplies."
After that, you can auto-navigate and find a nearby Sick Hekaru. It'll take 3 shots to kill. These don't really move, so you can just blast them with your cannon. You'll need to run over to your cannon and hit R on it to use it.
You can hold Shlft+LMB to prepare to fire, as well as use the navigation controls on screen to line up your shot.

Each cannon shot has a reload time, so keep that in mind. Once you're done, go back to talk to NPC Philaberto Falasi the next enemy is a little more tricky, since it moves around. Auto-path to it using the course menu like before,
You'll have to do the same thing for another enemy called Young Sea Monster Menace but these aren't too difficult as the hitbox for hitting sea monsters is really generous and you can fire pretty close to your own boat.
Ship Upgrades
Next up you'll learn all about upgrading ships, you can talk to NPC Philaberto Falasi for information on how to upgrade your ship, what it can be upgraded into and the materials needed to upgrade your boat.
Once you've finished reading, just tell him that you understand everything and the quest will complete.

Defeating Hekaru
The last mission is to defeat a harder monster, you can use the Sailing Course UI to auto-navigate to the monster.

This monster will take a lot more shots than the other two but it'll still be pretty easy for you to defeat, it might take a while but the provided boat should have no problem dealing with it.

After that just sail back to NPC Philaberto Falasi and then you'll get another quest ot enter "Olvium Frontia!" in the General chat, as in you have to type it in the chat window.
After that, you're all done and can claim the Olvia Academy coins and the Sailing rewards. Did you enjoy learning a bit about this Life Skill or trying it out? Let us know!
