Olvia Academy - Farming

Introduction

Olvia Academy is an amazing introduction to the Life Skills of Black Desert like Farming!
  • For completing each Life Skill course you'll gain some decent starting gear and 1000 Cron Stones
  • There's also an Olvia Academy Pass that gives bonus Life Skill Exp for the course you work on
  • Its recommend doing the other Olvia Academy lessons while you're working on the Farming course.
  • The Life Skill courses let you grab a lot of Exp and levels for the Life Skill you're interested in as well!

Starting the Farming Course

If you haven't tried any of the Olvia Academy courses yet, it's really easy to get started. You'll need to have graduated from the Season Server and be at least Level 60 to join the academy's classes. Start Farming first as its a lot of AFK.

You'll get rewards just for signing up in the form of an Academy Outfit and some Olvia Academy coins which have some nice rewards as well, for more information on how the Olvia Academy works, you can check out our guide here:

With that out of the way, you shouldn't really need the full context of how the academy works and everything it offers to just do this one course. Everything will be covered step by step so there's nothing too complicated to worry about.

You can start the Farming course by visiting NPC Emma Bartali at the front desk of the academy, or even easier, just click the green Olvia Academy UI in the top right of the screen, you can then auto navigate to the instructor!

Completing the Farming Course

If you don't know, completing the Life Skill courses will give you 1000 Cron Stones, so they're already a really good idea, even if you have no interest in Life Skilling. It also gives you Floramos Accessories to choose from.

The accessories can help you boost your Life Skilling stats, even if you have no interest in Farming, you can use these for your other Life Skills so it's a great one to complete.

Make sure you access the Bonus Rewards through the Academy Pass, the Life Skill exp they usually grant a lot of exp for that Life Skill, helping you to jump up through Life Skill levels before you even do much.

If you're completely new to farming, you can ask some questions to NPC Vilentia when starting out but the game will guide you through setting up a farm step by step.

After speaking to her again, she'll then give you even more chat options that give you a break down on Crops, Herbs, Mushrooms and Unknown Seeds. Vilentia will give you a few starting examples of each one.

You can read through them or just choose "I completely understand everything!" to move on to the next quest. You'll need to rent a Fence from nearby. Actually growing the crops can make it take a while to just get your Crons / rewards.

You'll find NPC Zaaira closeby to Emma Bartali in the academy entrance. After you've grabbed your fence, you can return to Vilentia and ask her where to place the fence. She'll give you the auto-navigation to a nearby spot.

When you're ready to place your fence, just right click the fence in your inventory and you'll enter the placing UI. Just click somewhere to place the fence. You'll need it to show as a blue ring for it to be placeable.

Now that your fence is placed, move close to it and hit "R" to enter place mode. This will let you plant your seeds and decide where you'd like to put them in your plot of land. Now you'll have to wait for your crops to grow.

You can AFK but you can't log out if you want them to continue growing. Crops only continue to grow while you're logged in, though they usually finish their current growth tick while you're offline.

Hot Pepper Crops take a few hours to be 100% complete and ready to harvest which is what the quest requires.

You can examine the status of your crops by moving to them and hitting R for Crop Information.

You'll also have to kill pests, if you ever notice your crops not growing, it's likely due to pests. Just run up to your crop and hit R to kill the pests. You'll get some Farming Exp and some drops for doing so.

You can check your crops from a distance by using the farming icon on the upper left corner. You'll be able to see their current growth level as well. There's an icon that looks like a leaf that will glow red if you need to take care of pests.

Pests & Pruning slow the growth of your crops so take care of them when you can. This also covers you for a later lesson, "What slows your crops" in the farming course. You can also assign workers to your farm to help with this.

Workers will Prune the plants and kill pests but will return home once they run out of stamina. People recommend Giant workers because of this, but for the academy course you're totally fine with any.

Just click the small icon of two people under "Worker" and it'll bring up the UI that allows you to select a worker to assign to your farm. If you don't have workers, don't worry about this step for now. There's a lesson on it later.

For now, you can just plant your Hot Pepper Crop and let it grow if you'd like. It's not a requirement to do any extra steps if you don't mind waiting and would rather go through the course step by step.

When they're 100% you can harvest up your crops, return to Vilentia and she'll give you some mushrooms to plant next, these ones only take less time, around 3 hours. After being asked to grow these, you'll have to grow another set.

This next set will focus on Pruning and Pests which we've already discussed, just grow more plants and prune / kill pests. After this, you'll just need to do an assign the workers task, which we've already went over.

Then it's breeding. If you've already had a worker tending to your garden and need to cancel the task, click the pickaxe icon for workers. You can then click the x button on their current task and they'll stop.

You can then tend to the crops yourself until you get the prompt to deal with pests or pruning. You'll get an Artisan worker in the Academy Pass, so if you don't have one you'll still be able to complete the quests.

Next you'll be made to harvest some special crops from the Garlic you've just bred. This will then be used in your next lesson along with Mysterious Seeds. You can use Mysterious Seeds + the special Garlic seeds with Shaking (L).

In case you forget the recipe, the lesson tells you in the Olvia academy UI. Next, you'll need Blush Leaf which you can obtain through farming, make sure you're breeding your plants as that can reward a lot, especially with gold seeds.

You'll need 1000, so make sure you're collecting your rewards from the Academy Pass as leveling up your farming can help. It shouldn't take too long for you to get 1000 even if the number seems daunting. Make sure to fill your patch.

It's the last lesson after that, which just requires you to Vilentia and then type "Olvium Frontia!" in the general chat, then you're all finished!

What did you think of farming, is it something you'll continue or did you just want the rewards? Let us know!
