Sniper Rifle Hunting

cIntroduction

Sniper Rifle Hunting is a unique active life skill that rewards accurate shooting!
  • If you feel like Matchlock Hunting feels clunky or slow you might be more interested in sniping instead
  • Eventually you'll be able to use a scoped sniper rifle starting from Hunting Artisan 10
  • You can complete the Olvia Academy Hunting lessons to boost a lot of your Hunting levels quickly
  • Sniper Rifle Hunting is done in specific locations, mostly at the Wild Game Reserve in LoML

Starting Sniper Rifle Hunting

Visit the Olvia Academy for the Hunting course to get you started, it'll give you some pre-enhanced blue gear and the opportunity to get used to Hunting and Butchering with a matchlock.

The beginning of the guide will be all about setting up for a more streamlined start to Sniping!

There's some information on Snipers in the course but it's limited, you won't actually use a Sniper. It'll help you power level through Hunting levels to get you closer to unlocking the scoped Sniper Rifle though.

Sniper Hunting is very active gameplay so if you want a relaxed life skill, regular hunting might be an easier choice if you still want to shoot wildlife.

Check out our guide by clicking the thumbnail above to quickly get through the Hunting Course if you're new or haven't finished it yet. You'll also get 1000 Cron Stones for finishing it.

If you've not looked at Olvia Academy, then we've got a guide on that as well, giving a general overview of everything that's on offer and the rewards for completing it.

Olvia Academy, Starting Gear & Hunting Mastery

The Olvia Academy gives you the opportunity to get some Floramos Accessories which are the equivalent of TRI Manos Accessories, these can help boost your Hunting Mastery quickly.

You can get these from the early stages of the Olvia Academy Farming guide, you can do the Farming course first, then work through the Hunting guide while waiting on your growing crops.

You'll also be able to grab some of these Floramos Accessories from the Season Currency, this would set you up to have 4/6 accessories which is a good start.

You can get Preonne Accessories from Resplendent Shakatu's Seals if you have a lot spare. If you're focused on comitting to Hunting, you can use the Olvia currency.

Purchase the Choose Your Adventurer's Life Starter Box to obtain TRI Manos Hunter's Clothes, they're better than the blue ones you get from the Hunting course and have more DP.

This means that you'll be getting around 670 Hunting mastery just from this really easy to obtain starter gear, you'll also gain a All-new ADV Support Box for completing the Season Pass.

We want this box for the Alchemy Stone, the Stella's Spirit Stone that gives 100 more Mastery as well. The Season Pass is from a Season character, in case you're new.

Hunting Mastery does effect Sniper Rifle Hunting just not on the larger value rare drops such as Crystals, it'll effect the base drops that you get which does result in better yields when Hunting.

I'd recommend the necklace, two earrings and a ring for the Floramos Accessories that you get, this is because you can add Logia accessories in to fill that last 2 spots for now. The Belt and Rings are cheaper.

Assuming you get a TET then you'll be getting +40 mastery for cheap +50 mastery from a DUO Manos Belt is currently 1.7b at the time of writing, basically 10x the price for +10.

Loggia is not end game gear, obviously, since its green grade. Eventually work towards Preonne Accessories if you're serious about Life Skills. But to start off with, Loggia is a good, cheap addition.

If you do get TET Loggia for the belt and spare ring, that'll be another +72 mastery (the ring gives +32) so you'll be at +742 without taking into account your Hunting Level.

You can check out the Mastery Brackets and what they effect using our Mastery Bracket table Here!

Completing the Olvia Academy Hunting Course will get you to Artisan 5 as standard once you've accepted the Academy Pass rewards, which will give you +225 Mastery. That puts us at +967 mastery before buffs.

Generally matchlock hunting is best for fast Exp until Artisan 10 when you unlock the scoped sniper rifle, which you need for the Land of the Morning Light hunting spot, this mastery is fine for that.

For Sniper Hunting in LoML, I'd recommend getting TET Manos Clothes asap as enemies hit hard!

Alchemy Stones, Buffs & Elixirs

Since Sniper Rifle Hunting is really best at Artisan 10 when you can grab the scoped sniper or work towards it, we'll work on Matchlock Hunting until we get there.

Again, running Stella's Spirit Stone or Life Spirit Stone are great beginner options for Hunting. You can also get a Treant's Tear from "The Adventurer Who Does it All." I'd say Stella is best because of the Mastery.

The Treant's Tear doesn't give mastery but it does give +30% Life Exp. Good for powerleveling with matchlock. These stones give a stat called "Gathering Item Drop Rate"  which we'll talk more about later.

For a lot more money or if you already have one, you can also go for the Khan's Heart: Life stone which is a little better than Treant's Tear since it gives extra mastery and drop rate vs Life Exp from Treant's.

It's better to get a proper feel for Sniping first, but is an option. If you're wanting to min-max, you can also use a Life Skill alchemy stone and an offensive alchemy stone.

Something cheap like a Destruction Spirit Stone will let you get the Attack Speed bonus, it effects sniping but this is min maxing, its a small boost. Not switching back to your life stone will nerf your profits.

You can also hotbar your alchemy stones to quickly switch between them for this!

You'll want 5 Attack Speed, Movement Speed and Gathering for Sniper Hunting. Crit Rate, Crit Damage and Back Attack Damage doesn't work for snipers, but for a Matchlock so use them while leveling Hunting.

(These are expensive for a buff item so you might wanna hold off until you're actually making money)
Central Marketplace, Crafting
Black Spirit Life Buff  20% Life Exp for 180 minutes  Talk to Black Spirit, costs 100 Energy

This makes up a solid buff rotation for you to focus on, your Hunting Clothes will also give you +3 Movement Speed if you're using Manos or +2 if you're using Blue gear.

The elixirs will help you max out +5s on your stats. There are more buffs you can apply like limited time event items but because they're not always accessible I won't include them.

You'll have around 1267 Mastery at Artisan 5 without using a Mystic Beasts scroll, which is a decent place to start out at if you're new to hunting. Guru gives an extra bullet later but its only for Matchlocks.

Gathering Item Drop Rate / Artifacts & Lightstones

For Sniping "Gathering Item Drop Rate" is something people try to stack since it impacts money per hour a good amount, its usually prioritized over Hunting & Life Mastery for rare drops like Sharps or Black Gems

Other Gathering Item Drop Rate increases you'll want to look for comes from event items a lot of the time like Crispy Roast Turkey, Western Bourbon Whiskey and Delicious Japchae for example.

Artifact  Lightstone Combination

Sethra's Artifact - Gathering Item Drop Rate

This should be the combination you aim for since it gives 14% Gathering Item Drop Rate but it is an expensive set, so if you're new to sniping it is a bit of an investment.

Sethra's Artifact - Life Exp

Cheap combination for extra Exp, you can use this while matchlock training before sniping

I've already mentioned a few ways to increase this with the buffs mentioned above, but there's also extra ways to increase your drops like the Hedgehog / llama pet as well.

The hedgehog isn't as crazy as it used to be because it doesn't scale with Mastery, but it's still worth mentioning as it is a way to increase your profits and EXP. It's generally better at lower Mastery though.

Simply put, if you're gearing with enough Gathering Item Drop Rate and Mastery, I wouldn't worry about swiping for a hedgehog, the increase isn't going to be anything more than a few % for silver per hour.

Gear, Knives & Magical Crystals

You'll want to get TET Manos Clothes as soon as possible for the LoML Sniping spot because the mobs hit hard, even with TET the mobs can quickly burst you down if you're not paying attention.

You'll also want a Manos Hunting Bag and Preonne Accessories, this is pretty standard across life skills. For Life Skill Magical Crystals you'll want Vital Crystals.

You can save some money on these, the Cooking and Alchemy courses both give you one of the crystals. Sniping is actually a decent way to get Forest Crystals which are used to make them.

Crafting Vital Crystals

Forest Crystal

Trace of Nature x50
(Central Marketplace)

Magical Shard x50
(Sealed Black Magic Crystals
Magical Lightstone Crystal x100
(Exchange Lightstones to NPC Dalishain)

Forest Crystals can also be obtained from fishing anywhere in the Land of the Morning Light region but the rates are low, you can also try to send workers to an excavation site in LoML too.

You can also turn in 1000 Sangpyeong Coins for a Forest Crystal as well, the coins come from running the Land of the Morning Light bosses so if you do those you might have some!

Once you've got the materials for crafting the Vital Crystals you'll need to take them to NPC Hyunyong in Nampo's Moodle village. Crystal of Breathing Verdures give more exp & extra mastery for a higher cost.

If you're just starting out and don't have much silver, you can throw in some placeholder crystals like Dim Magic Crystal: Life for a extra exp.

You could also slot in some Magic Crystal of Infinity - Max HP or WON Glorious Crystal of Honor - Max HP for some help living when you first try sniper hunting, you'll want to replace these asap though.

Butchering Knives

For butcher knives, you can obtain a TRI Dostter Steel Butcher Knife from completing some of the Olvia Academy Cooking course, this knife will be fine for starting out.

If you haven't checked out the Olvia Academy Cooking Course, we have a guide on it here:

The mastery doesn't matter on butcher knives because they give Gathering Mastery and not Hunting / Life Mastery. You can use Loggia, Dostter or Manos.

These will all give you Gathering Item Drop Rate +30% for your hunting gathering. The Magic Butcher Knife does not work as it says in its tooltip so don't use this.

The Demihar Butcher Knife effect works, these are timed 14 day tools. People run durability reduction sets for this butcher knife as it gives +80% but can't be repaired.

Your mainhand and awakening weapon costumes will give 10% durability resistance each, there's also the Blacksmith's Blessing lightstone set that gives 30%, 8 costume items will give you another 10%.

Generally most people will have a costume set, but there's also options like this Lil' Otter / Papu Fishing Carrier that gives +10%. 4 Tier 4 pets can give 16% with the right skill and a tier 5 gives another 5%.

These are options, i'm not recommending you swipe just for a Demihar build. It will increase profits but you may not always have one around to use. A Turtle is one of the pets you can use for it.

Reaching reaching Apprentice 1 Gathering should give you the option to select one, you can also get one from the suggested quest, "[Life 101] The Adventurer That Does it All!" mentioned earlier.

Which Sniper to Use / Marni Sniper

As mentioned, I would matchlock until you can grab a Marni Sniper Rifle. These can be crafted or purchased from the Central Marketplace. Crafting is cheaper but you'll need a +10 Blue Sniper Rifle.

These are usually sold out, likely because they can be crafted into the much more expensive Marni Snipers. Here are the ingredients to craft a Blue Sniper Rifle:

Sniper Rifle Crafting Materials

Pure Iron Crystal x 3

Steel x20

Log x1

Fine Hard Hide x1

Most of these ingredients can be obtained from the Central Marketplace without much issue, Logs are usually sold out though. It won't cost much to craft this, maybe a few million.

For the Log just go to any random tree and chop it down with Lumbering. Once you've got the materials you can combine them by using Manufacturing (L).

Once you've crafted the Blue Sniper Rifle, you can hammer it all the way up to +7 with black stones. Since its so cheap, you can just keep slamming away until you get +7, after that there's a downgrade chance.

You can then use Force enhancement to go from +7 all the way to +10. This drains the Max Durability, so you will need to repair it at a Blacksmith as you enhance it.

As you can see, you can buy the Marni's Snipers, you can even get them pre-enhanced. This might be the route you want to take if you don't like RNG enhancing. Here are the crafting materials:

Marni's Sniper Rifle Crafting Materials:

+10 Sniper Rifle

Resplendent Obsidian x10

Fire Horn x1000

Mysterious Powder x1000

Concentrated Magical Black Gem x10

However, you can't craft this with Manufacturing, it instead needs to be created in a Workshop house in the Land of the Morning Light. You need to use this top house in Dokkebi Forest.

Generally it's recommended that you have at least a +7 before going to the Land of the Morning Light Hunting spot which is where you'll be making all of your silver through sniper hunting.

You'll need Concentrated Magical Black Stones for enhancement, you can risk the downgrade or force-enhance it. Forcing it will cost you 240 stones, which is around 1.6b at the time of writing.

So if you are going to purchase a sniper, try to get the +10 since it's market value from +9 to +10 doesn't jump as high as the cost to force enhance it.

Best Character / Class for Hunting

If you feel like it, you can make a new character that has attack speed passives like succession ninja but the best class for sniper hunting is actually Ranger.

Ranger has much faster animations by default, when finishing a shot, Ranger almost immediately begins reloading again. This can make sniping feel more fluid and increase silver per hour a little.

Weight Limit & Durability

Since you get so many drops from Hunting, you'll need a lot of weight to deal with it all. You can purchase some weight with loyalties, but end game hunting at high mastery can hit 6k weight.

You can also purchase 2 maids with season coins, each Storage maid can transfer 100LT worth of weight when used. They have a cooldown of around 20 minutes, so you'd need a lot of maids.

Since 10 maids could move 1000LT every 20 minutes, or 3k an hour, if you have decent weight on your character you could probably use around 15. Or you can use the Forest Path Wagon.

The Forest Path Wagon (Peridot Wagon) has 5000 weight from the start, you can overstack items in it to use as a storage for an hour or two. You can also use a Forest Path Wagon Badge for 6k.

For hunting you'll probably want a tent, preferably the cash shop one but the free one works as well if you have anvils to repair gear, as your rifle runs out of durability pretty quickly.

You can use Item Brand Spell Stones as well as other durability reducing effects like a costume but it's still needs repairing a lot. You can buy the brand stones in the cash shop in the function tab.

Sometimes they're given out during events or for login rewards, you can also get one from the Hunting Progression Pass if you haven't already done that but it might take a while to complete.

Matchlock Training

Now that we've got a starter hunting set, I'd strongly recommend buying or enhancing an Artisan Matchlock to +10, we'll just be using this to level up to allow us to use the Marni Sniper Rifle.

After you're equipped with your Life Skill gear, bring your buffs and head over to O'dyllita by Abyssal Well, this will bring you almost directly to the spot. Here's the location that we'll train at:

📍 Map embed (click to edit)

When you arrive you'll see some huge Rhinos in the nearby field, that's what we're going to be using to train on. If you don't have a tent it's worth noting that there's also a Blacksmith nearby.

Now before you start blasting, these Rhinos nearby are actually normal mobs that will take no damage from a matchlock, so save yourself the pain and move further down the road to the hunting mobs.

When you're Matchlock hunting there's a few things to keep in mind, this guide is about sniping so to be brief:

  • Crouching fires and reloads faster, press Q to crouch
  • Dodge using Shift + Direction, Shift + W will stand up and sprint
  • RMB to reload, LMB to fire
  • Sprinting (Shift+W) and then using RMB will sprint while reloading
  • Starting to reload while crouched then rolling can animation cancel reload
  • Back Attacks matter a lot, crit damage and back attack crystals increase damage
  • Hitting F with 100% Black Spirit's Rage will do a powerful shot (BSR must be unlocked)

The mobs can be desyncy and Rhinos can spam a close ranged attack and swarm you, at first this will probably feel clunky and you might not even enjoy matchlock hunting, sniping is very different.

The EXP should be a few % of your current rank per Rhino kill probably around 6-8% with buffs, if there's a Life Skill % event on it'll be even better. You get EXP as a drop when Butchering, not from shooting.

While you're doing this, be sure to check the drops, you'll probably end up making a few hundred million in rare drops like Sharps, Black Gems and others. Wildsparks are good as well.

Wildsparks can be converted into Black Gem Fragments which can then be turned into Black Gems and then finally Concentrated Magical Black Gems, so it's worth collecting.

This is how you'll be getting to Artisan 10 in order to be able to use the Marni's Sniper Rifle.

Sniping Mechanics

Now that you can equip the Marni's Sniper Rifle, you'll be able to scope. Good news, if you hated the matchlock training, this is very different. You can try sniping safely in Velia.

This area has Elk that will run away if spooked, you can tell when they're spooked because a yellow exclaimation mark will appear and they'll despawn. This stops you from hunting them with a matchlock.

📍 Map embed (click to edit)

The mechanics to sniping are far different to Matchlock hunting. You scope with RMB, zoom in or out with your mouse wheel and hold LMB to start targeting your shot.

You want to hold the LMB down for the shot to become more precise. If you can align the red markers with the 4 white markers of the reticle you'll trigger a perfect shot which does more damage.

Headshots will give you a Critcal Shot, so no more shooting animals in the back if you can avoid it. When you've taken your shot, you'll scope out automatically and trigger the reload mini game.

You need to tap space while the bullet is over the gold section of the barrel to skip the reload animation. Miss and you'll reload slowly. There's also a shot camera to see your bullet trail where you hit the animal.

If the reticle is blue it means the shot is going to miss. This can be from things blocking it like trees and rocks or you're simply out of range. Being a sniper rifle, the range is pretty forgiving though.

You can also see a flash of green like in the image above when you hit a perfect shot, even on a miss.

Some quick tips for Sniping:

  • To crouch with the Sniper Rifle is Space, not Q
  • Don't hit any buttons after the reload mini-game to automatically go back to zooming
  • The Sniper's range lets you shoot targets far off into the distance
  • If your reticle is red when holding LMB, your shot will hit, if it's blue, it'll miss.
  • Your Fairy can block shots, as can hitboxes around trees and rocks
  • The Sniper doesn't have a Black Spirit Rage shot, unlike Matchlock
  • Space to crouch, W+A/S/D to i frame roll, Shift+W will make you stand and sprint
  • Most mobs despawn after 1 minute for gathering
  • When you get used to it, you'll be able to time the reload mini-game almost immediately

You'll be able to gather the Elks at Velia but their EXP and drops aren't really anything worth noting, if you've just came from Matchlock Rhinos this will be far worse.

I wouldn't recommend staying at Elks any longer than it takes to really find a rhythm with sniping, or to see if you like it at all. That being said, when you are ready to move on you can head to LoML.

📍 Map embed (click to edit)

It's a good idea to find the Huntkkebi NPC, it has some daily quests that help you get a guaranteed boss spawn called Thunderpaw. They're pretty self explainatory, you'll need 300 Pork and 10 Sticky Honey.

The bosses hit harder and take more damage, they can also spawn randomly. Kill them ASAP as they have a better rare drop material chance. In LoML you'll need to focus on landing Critical Perfect shots.

The mobs should take 1 Perfect Critical and then 1 more Critical shot to kill, this means you can pull mobs closer to you. Open up on them with 1 shot, they'll then run towards you, then fire at another animal.

This gives them time to get closer to you, letting you kill them before they reach you but close enough to gather without running across the field. Mobs despawn after 1 minute but boars last 3 minutes.

Because they last longer when dead, it's best to focus on them as it gives you more time to gather the mobs. Bosses should always be focused though. Your roll is a PvE iframe, so keep that in mind!

It's smart to wear simple, cheap crystals your first time here or to pull mobs slowly as you get used to it. You'll need to practice sniping for big money but even with our starter setup you can pull some good money.

Check out GPW's Hunting Calculator for a good idea of money per hour here!

Accumulated Damage

Accumulated Damage is actually pretty simple, the tool tip just makes it sound confusing. When you check your Hunting Mastery in game, the game tells you that Hunting Mastery effects drops.

The materials that this is referring to are Matchlock Hides. Damaged Hide, Usable Hide and Supreme Hide. For Sniper Rifle hunting you'll only get one type of hide regardless of your Hunter Mastery.

This is what the tooltip means when it says Sniper Hunting isn't effected by Hunting Mastery. However Hunting Mastery does work and effects Sniping drops, letting you scale up your money per hour.

Accumulated damage is any damage not done to the animal's head, basically lowering the "quality" of the animal with multiple shots. This can reduce money slightly but you want to headshot anyway.
